Customer FAQ
Common questions about posting a job, comparing bids, and hiring an independent pro for handyman work, home repairs, and property maintenance on Top Guys.
What is Top Guys?
Top Guys is an online marketplace that connects homeowners, landlords, and property managers with independent local service providers for handyman work, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, installations, and property maintenance. You post the job, compare bids or hire a pro directly, and manage the work in one place.
Is it free to post a job?
Yes. Posting a job, receiving bids, and messaging providers is free for customers. You are not charged a separate marketplace transaction fee for posting a job or for accepting a bid. You pay your pro the price you agreed for the work.
How do bids work?
Once your job is posted, providers who serve your area see it and submit bids that include a price, an estimated duration, and the earliest date they can start. You can compare them side by side and accept the one you want. You are never obligated to accept a bid.
What if nobody bids on my job?
It can happen. Provider supply varies by area, trade, and timing, so a job that gets several bids in a busy market may get none in a thinner one. Adding clear photos and a specific description helps, and you can also browse profiles and hire a provider directly.
Can I hire a specific pro instead of waiting for bids?
Yes. Every public profile has a hire button, so you can send a booking request straight to a provider whose skills, rate, and reviews look right for your job.
How does the AI estimate work?
When you post a job with photos and a description, our analysis suggests what the problem most likely is, which trade category it falls under, how complex the work looks, and a price range to expect. It is an estimate to help you compare bids, not a quote, and it does not replace an on site assessment.
Are Top Guys licensed and insured?
Providers set their own credentials. Profiles show the credential checks a provider has submitted, including license and insurance documents where they were provided, and those checks are preliminary and AI assisted rather than official government or insurer verification. Always ask for license and insurance details directly for any work that requires them.
What does a handyman cost, and how is the price set?
Each provider sets their own hourly rate, minimum charge, and prices for common fixed jobs, and all of that is shown on their profile before you book. The final price for your job is the amount you agree with the provider.
Which areas does Top Guys serve?
Coverage is set by the providers themselves, since each one chooses the ZIP codes and travel radius they serve, so it grows market by market. The locations page lists the markets with active providers and up to date job activity.
Can I reschedule a booking?
Yes. Either side can propose a new date and time from the booking, and the other side confirms or declines it. If the two of you cannot agree, cancel the booking and repost the job.
What if something goes wrong with a job?
Message the provider first through the booking, which keeps the record in one place. If it cannot be resolved, contact our team at team@topguys.co with the job details.
Do I need an account to post a job?
You can browse services, locations, and resources without an account, but you need to sign up to post a job, receive bids, and message providers so the conversation and the payment stay attached to your job record.
