Top Guy FAQ
For independent handymen, carpenters, painters, plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, and general maintenance providers who want a steadier flow of local work. These answers cover joining, how bidding and matching work, what the platform costs, and how to win more jobs.
How do I join Top Guys as a provider?
Create an account, choose the Top Guy account type, complete your profile with your skills, service categories, rates, and service area, and upload any credentials you want reviewed. Verified and complete profiles are the ones customers see and hire.
What does it cost to be a Top Guy?
Creating a profile and browsing jobs is free, and submitting bids is unlimited and free. A platform fee applies when a job is awarded to you: 7% of the accepted job amount, with a minimum of $3.00 and a maximum of $95.00. The fee is charged to your wallet balance when the customer awards the job.
What do credits in my wallet cover?
Credits fund the platform fee on awarded jobs. Before you submit a bid, you need enough available credits to cover the fee that would apply if that bid were accepted. You can top up at any time in the wallet, and automatic top up is available if you prefer.
What happens if my balance is low when a job is awarded?
If you had enough credits when you bid but not enough when the customer accepted it, the job still goes ahead and the fee may take your balance negative. You will be notified, and the balance needs to be topped up before accepting more work.
How does Top Guys decide which jobs and providers match?
Matching is weighted across the skills a job needs, how far you are from the job, whether your availability lines up, your rating, how many jobs you have completed, and how quickly you respond. Completing your profile and responding fast are the two levers you control most directly.
How do I get more jobs?
Keep your availability current, list every service category you actually work in, keep your service ZIP codes and radius accurate, respond to requests quickly, and ask customers to leave a review after each completed job. Completed jobs, ratings, and reviews all feed directly into how you rank in matching.
Do I set my own prices?
Yes. You control your hourly rate, your minimum charge, and the price of any fixed services you offer. Bids you submit on jobs are your own price and timeline.
Do I need a license or insurance to join?
Not for general handyman, assembly, and maintenance work, although insurance is strongly recommended. Work that legally requires a license, such as permit work, gas, electrical panels, and major plumbing, must be performed by a provider who holds that license. You are responsible for knowing the requirements in your state and city.
What is Top Guys Pro?
Top Guys Pro is the paid provider plan on the platform. Current benefits, pricing, and any fee differences are shown in the app before you subscribe, so check the plan details there for what applies to you today.
How and when do I get paid?
Agree the price with the customer before you start, and confirm the payment method on the booking. Payment handling and payout details are described in the Terms and are confirmed in the app as the job progresses. The platform fee for the awarded job is separate and is charged to your wallet.
Can I work in more than one trade?
Yes. Providers list multiple service categories and skills. The broader your accurate skill list, the more jobs you are matched to, as long as you can genuinely deliver the work you list.
How do reviews work?
Customers can review a provider after a completed job, and the rating and review appear on your public profile. Your review count, rating, and completed job count are part of the matching score, so they are worth protecting.
